A flattener for steel coils is a machine used to reduce the curvature or warping of steel coils, resulting in flat sheets suitable for further processing or use in various applications.
It includes multiple rolls arranged in a specific configuration. These rolls are adjustable and may be driven or passive. There is a hydraulic or mechanical system to apply force on the rolls, allowing them to flatten the coil. And then there are guides and feed mechanisms to help control the entry of the coil into the machine and ensure even feed.
The steel often retains a curved shape, referred to as the “set,” when it is uncoiled from the roll. To achieve a flat surface, a flattener is typically positioned at the entry of the processing line. The coil is fed from the payoff reel through a peeler and pinch roll before entering the flattener, which effectively removes the “set.” This crucial step ensures that the steel is properly prepared for subsequent processing.
ADS can design and build the flattener tailored to your specific needs.
